Sergeyenko: Belarusian-Cuban co-operation based on trade-economic relations
The range of Belarusian-Cuban co-operation is quite wide – as stated by Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly Igor Sergeyenko during his today’s meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Belarus Santiago Perez Benitez
Mr. Sergeyenko noted that meetings with Cuban diplomats and parliamentarians are always constructive, “We sincerely respect your revolutionary country, Cuba. At the end of April, I met with Ana Maria Machado, the Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba. Together, we participated in the Great Heritage – Common Future significant international forum, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. We share a commitment to preserving historical memory, and our views on international affairs are aligned. The House of Representatives has repeatedly adopted statements in support of Cuba and against the blockade.”
“Trade-economic relations are, of course, the foundation of Belarusian-Cuban co-operation, with a focus on increasing volumes and identifying new areas of interaction. The Belarusian-Cuban Joint Commission on Trade-Economic Co-operation, which is meeting in Cuba at the moment, is devoted to these issues. I am confident that the discussions will stimulate the development of new directions and intensify efforts in traditional areas, given the wide range of our co-operation,” the Chairman of the House of Representatives emphasised.
During a meeting with Belarusian business leaders in late March, the Cuban Ambassador stated that purchasing agricultural machinery, supplying dairy products and co-operating in the medical field are priorities for the Cuban government in strengthening relations with Belarus.
