Lukashenko revealed why he appointed non-agrarian to lead Minsk Region
During his today’s working trip to the Lyuban District, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko revealed the secret of why he appointed Aleksei Kushnarenko, who is not an agrarian, Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, BelTA reports
Aleksei Kushnarenko’s professional background is firmly rooted in the energy sector. Prior to his appointment in the Minsk Region, he served as Energy Minister.
“I can already reveal the secret now. Aleksei Ivanovich, when I appointed you, I purposefully did not send an agricultural specialist here,” the Head of State said.
Nevertheless, Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that the Energy Ministry has subordinate agricultural enterprises, one of which is Gazovik-Sipakovo in the Shklov District, which he had once visited. There was also a conversation with Aleksei Kushnarenko about the work of this enterprise. “If a person’s essence is closely interwoven with rural life, they will work on the ground. I asked him whether he supported this enterprise financially [referring to the support from the parent company]. He replied in the negative, adding that the enterprise was self-sufficient,” the Head of State said.
The President noted that he had known about this agricultural enterprise since Soviet times, but that the level of management had now improved significantly. “What I saw was strikingly different from what it was [during the Soviet period]. But nothing has been broken or thrown away; everything has been put in order. The farm is operational. I remember your way of working very well,” the Belarusian leader explained.
On the other hand, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that agrarians are always willing to support agricultural enterprises when their heads request financial assistance to address challenging circumstances, including adverse weather conditions. “We are ready to provide all the necessary assistance. We will help and support you, but the money must be returned. That’s why I appointed you Governor, despite knowing that you are not an agrarian. There were other offers, but as always, there is an alternative,” the President said.
The Head of State said that he was pleased with what he saw on his way to the Lyuban District. “God grant that it will continue like this, Aleksei Ivanovich. This is what I have already seen. I hope I’m not praising you too much! Well done! Everything is neat here. Not only in the Lyuban District either. Slutsk and Soligorsk neighbourhoods are also great. They've always been good districts, but especially this year. I’m glad.”
