Kaliningrad Region interested in Belarus' land reclamation experience

Kaliningrad Region is interested in co-operating with Belarus in the field of land reclamation – as noted by Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Alexei Besprozvannykh during his today’s meeting with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko

The Governor, in particular, noted, “As for our joint projects, we have focused today on an important sphere: land reclamation. 70 percent of Russia's irrigation lands are located in our region, and Belarus boasts a very good experience of how to deal with such lands. We have discussed a joint co-operation programme, as well as the use of technologies and equipment produced in Belarus.”

Mr. Besprozvannykh added that Kaliningrad residents greatly appreciate Belarusian food, “I know that Belarusian consumers love our fish products. We have talked about increasing trade turnover in this regard. We will discuss a number of projects in industry. In general, I think the sanctions imposed by our unfriendly neighbours will not be an obstacle for us in developing trade.”

The Russian guest also noted that passenger traffic from the Kaliningrad Region to Belarus and back is growing by 15-20 percent annually. In this regard, the parties have agreed to consider the possibility of launching Brest-Kaliningrad flights.
