Foreign students taught emergency behaviour rules by Belarusian rescuers

This week, employees of the regional department of the Emergencies Ministry organised the educational sessions in the lecture halls and the dormitories of Mogilev where the foreign students of local universities live

A large number of international students from different countries study in Mogilev. For many of them Belarus is a new country with unfamiliar rules and specifics. Ensuring their safety is a priority task for the city authorities and emergency services.

During the educational sessions, the Emergencies Ministry employees told the students about the most common emergencies that can occur at home and in the city. These are fires, gas leaks and accidents involving life-support infrastructure. Particular attention was paid to fire safety rules in dormitories, the use of primary fire extinguishing equipment and evacuation procedures.

“We understand that international students may find it difficult to adapt to new conditions and figure out how to act in emergency situations. Therefore, we are trying to organise such sessions on a regular basis, so that students can feel confident and know how to protect themselves and others,” Olga Sidorova, the Senior Inspector of the Mogilev Regional Department of the Emergencies Ministry, noted.

The sessions were conducted interactively with the help of visual aids. The students actively engaged in the discussion, asked questions and shared their experiences.

“I learned how to use a fire extinguisher properly for the first time. This information is very useful and I think it will help me and my friends to be better prepared for possible emergencies,” Yusuf Maklida, a student from the Comoros, said.

Organisation of such educational events is a major step forward in developing a secure and comfortable environment for the foreign students who have chosen to study in our country.
