“SCO is the largest regional international organisation that covers more than half of the world's population, and it is the gold standard for a new type of international relations, an important force for maintaining peace and security both in the region and in the world as a whole," Cui Guojie said at the opening of the SCO Media Co-operation Forum.

As noted by the diplomat, ‘in the context of the fact that the world is entering new stages of upheaval, the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation is becoming an important platform for the development of a multilateral approach’. He stressed that China currently chairs SCO and intends to hold more than 100 events before the end of its term in office.

Cui Guojie recalled that a SCO summit is scheduled to take place in autumn, in Tianjin. "On the banks of the Haihe River, we are ready to jointly outline the further development of our organisation," he concluded.

Currently, the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation unites ten countries (Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). Two observer states (Afghanistan, Mongolia) and 14 dialogue partners (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Sri Lanka) also co-operate with SCO.
