Volfovich urged SCO members to support Belarus' initiative of Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity

Speaking at a multilateral meeting of the SCO Security Council secretaries held in Moscow as part of the international meeting of high representatives for security issues, State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich called on the SCO countries to support Belarus' initiative to develop the Eurasian Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century

Mr. Volfovich noted that the effect of this document is primarily considered withing the Eurasian region, “Currently, the SCO countries are already conducting an expert study of the charter's provisions. Therefore, I would like to appeal once again to my SCO colleagues to support the development of this document. We are grateful to all partners for their constructive participation in the process.”

The State Secretary of the Security Council voiced the positions that the Belarusian side considers relevant and promising for the formation of an equal and indivisible architecture of Eurasian security. These include the development of a common vision on artificial intelligence issues, the expansion of co-operation between the SCO states in the field of international information security, and the strengthening of joint work on multilateral platforms on disarmament and arms control, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and the peaceful use of atomic energy.

"We are convinced that the joint efforts being made will help strengthen the entire SCO security system and enhance the organisation's role in ensuring regional and global security," Mr. Volfovich stressed, adding that the Belarusian side considers the development of the SCO system of international co-operation to be the most important area of joint work.

“Adhering to the ‘Shanghai spirit’ principles, Belarus stands for the development of universally recognised agreements that will form the basis of a new world order. At the same time, we fully support efforts aimed at deepening multilateral international co-operation to create a system of Eurasian security," the State Secretary noted.

In turn, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, noted Belarus' active efforts within the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation after the republic received the status of a full member of the association. “We note the active efforts to join the joint work. I am confident that in its new status Belarus will contribute to further strengthening the SCO multilateral co-operation,” he said.
