Ukraine alarmed by decrease in country’s birth rate and increase in mortality
Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod expressed concern about the increase in the number of burials in cemeteries and the falling birth rate in the country, TASS reports
“Society is affected by the size, or rather the number of graves in cemeteries. The number of graves is increasing all the time,” the Ukrainian politician said in an interview with the YouTube channel Politeka Online.
She is shocked by the country’s birth rate statistics, particularly those in Kiev.
“I saw the birth rate figures for Kiev, which has always been a progressive city.
Now, the birth rate for the entire city is the same as it was previously <…> for just one maternity hospital. Can you imagine what kind of demographic crisis we are facing?” the Ukrainian parliamentarian drew attention.
Ms. Skorokhod suggested that this could negatively affect the future of Ukraine, “These are actually very dangerous signs and could lead to us being unable to reborn as a nation.”
