Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez: Belarus, Cuba creating new milestone in relations based on friendship and respect
Belarus and Cuba are creating a new milestone in relations based on traditional bonds of friendship and respect – as stated by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez following his today’s talks with President Aleksandr Lukashenko
“We are creating a new milestone in the history of Cuban-Belarusian relations. The governments of both countries place a high value on the outstanding relations that exist between us. This visit is evidence that our relationships are based on the traditional bonds of friendship and respect between peoples. Cuba and the Cuban people admire Belarus and its people,” Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez emphasised.
The Cuban leader praised the Belarusian side’s understanding, compassion, and determination to assist Cuba given the challenging circumstances facing this Latin American country
“We have discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, focusing on those that we still require attention in order to improve our relationships in a way that benefits both parties. These include fields like construction, tourism, biopharmaceuticals, industry, agriculture, the food industry, sports, education, and science, among others. We have given particular attention to assessing initiatives that promote trade-economic ties between the two countries,” the Cuban President added.
He also stressed the significance of working together to combat the pressure from illegal sanctions that both states face.
“I believe that one of the decisions announced by President Aleksandr Lukashenko, the establishment of joint ventures, is one of the best solutions to counter the sanctions that are trying to bring us to our knees,” Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said.
The Cuban leader thanked Belarus for the humanitarian assistance provided to Cuba to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, as well as for the country’s long-standing support at various international venues in condemning the economic, trade, and financial blockade. Additionally, he reaffirmed Cuba's desire to work more closely with the Eurasian Economic Union.
