Over the five-year period, 19 thousand foreigners have received Belarusian citizenship, Olga Chupris, the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration, told reporters after Aleksandr Lukashenko’s meeting with the President Administration leadership on June 12th
She noted that, following the President’s conversation about citizenship in 2021, foreign citizens began applying to us en masse, “After that, almost 9,000 Ukrainians were granted citizenship by the President’s decision. In total, 19,000 foreigners became citizens of the Republic of Belarus during this period, through decisions made by the Head of State and through materials adopted by internal affairs bodies. This figure is 4.5 times higher than the number of people who renounced their Belarusian citizenship. In other words, Belarus is of interest to foreigners. During this period, former citizens of 51 states became citizens of our country. People come from all over the world. This includes Latin America, Europe, and Asia. It is believed that the whole world is represented here. Our country is truly a place where people want to live.”
