Belarus’ PM on promising areas of co-operation with Libya: industry, agriculture, healthcare

During his meeting with the Prime Minister of Libya (Government of National Stability), Dr. Osama Hamad, Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin discussed promising areas of bilateral co-operation

As noted by Mr. Turchin, that’s the fourth Belarusian-Libyan meeting over the last four months, and it is evidence of mutual interest in developing the entire range of traditionally friendly bilateral relations.

“In the context of these meetings, the President of Belarus set the task to elaborate specific economic projects in the interests of our peoples. We have determined that agriculture and food security, industry, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education and human capital development, prevention of natural disasters and regulation of the consequences of emergency situations are potentially promising areas of our co-operation," Belarus’ Prime Minister said.

Mr. Turchin added that Belarus boasts significant export potential, “Belarus holds significant positions in exports of dairy and meat products. As I understand, the range of the first product deliveries has already been determined, and it includes baby food, animal feed, as well as drugs for locust control. As you have seen, Belarus is a high-tech country that produces a wide range of tractors for various purposes, passenger and freight transport, agricultural, road construction and municipal machinery. Our final products meet all modern requirements and have a significant service life. As part of the deliveries, we organise equipment maintenance and staff training.”

He stressed that Belarus is well known for its medicine as well, “In 2024, medical care was provided to more than 160,000 foreign citizens from 159 countries. Among them were more than a thousand Libyans.”

“I would also like to mention another area of our co-operation: the study of Libyan citizens at Belarusian universities, including medical ones,” Mr. Turchin said and expressed hope that the guest of honour would support mutually beneficial agreements with Belarus.

In turn, Osama Hamad thanked the Belarusian side for its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries, “Over the recent time, we have held a number of meetings and visits between relevant departments and specialists, and the signing of the memorandum in Benghazi was one of the achievements. The document has become a roadmap for the development of our co-operation in the most promising sectors for the benefit of our countries and for the realisation of our peoples’ wishes.”

The Prime Minister of Libya emphasised that bilateral documents were signed in the fields of agriculture, medicine, and emergency situations. “Our agreements serve the implementation of joint projects in the fields of industry, education, the development of human capital and co-operation in agriculture, the exchange of experience and personnel to counteract the consequences of emergency situations. Our countries have a long history of relations and common interests. We believe in a common future and see Belarus as a promising partner," Osama Hamad concluded.
